About Firefighters’ Retirement System

At Firefighters’ Retirement System (FRS), we are dedicated to providing a secure and prosperous future for our brave firefighters. Established by the Louisiana State Legislature in 1979, we are a cost-sharing, multi-employer governmental defined benefit pension plan.

We aim to provide retirement and other benefits to members and Louisiana firefighters, ensuring their financial security and peace of mind. Firefighters’ Retirement System of Louisiana envisions a future where every member can retire with pride, knowing they are financially secure and their service is appreciated.

History of Firefighters’ Retirement System

Firefighters’ Retirement System began operations on January 1, 1980, and became a qualified defined benefit plan on January 1, 2005. Governed by an 11-member Board of Trustees, we are proud to be one of Louisiana’s nine statewide pension systems.

Our services extend to:

Employees of the retirement system
Full-time firefighters
Fire personnel employed by a municipality, parish, or fire protection district
Persons in positions as defined in the municipal fire and police civil service system in the State of Louisiana
